Good Times

We had a pretty nice weekend at our house - just a few bits about what has been going on.

Saturday
I got out and did a little shopping. I was on a mission to find a new bathing suit since Bodie and I start swimming lessons this coming Saturday. I had ordered one from Old Navy but when it arrived last week, it was very apparent that it wouldn't work for me. I need a built in bra, and this only had "foam cups that provide support". I was afraid all maternity swimsuits would be like this so I tried some plus size suits at Target (our Targets don't carry maternity swimwear). The 2 I tried on at Target were horrible, I could hardly breathe in them, and if I managed to find one that actually fit, it definitely wouldn't last my entire pregnancy. I decided to try Motherhood at the mall and found this one. Definitely not something I'd normally wear but it will do the job for this summer.

Also on Saturday, Curt decided to be handy and replace our leaky ice maker. I'm embarrassed to say how long it as been leaking for (so long that I can't remember exactly how long) but it has definitely been getting worse. After some research, Curt found it wouldn't be hard to replace on his own, so I picked up a new one while I was out shopping and it really took almost no time for him to install it. I'm glad he did it himself instead of paying a repairman a ridiculous amount of money to come out and do that for us. It also gave us a good excuse to clean out the freezer and vacuum and mop under the fridge. This is definitely something we need to do more often.

Sunday
What a beautiful day. Well it started off a little slow because Curt and I both woke up with head colds. I actually sent him back to bed because it is a little annoying when he is laying on the floor like he is playing with Bodie, but instead is sleeping. So Bodie and I cuddled up and watched some of his "Melmo" (Elmo) video. He is on the go a lot of the time so it was nice to get in some cuddle time, even if it was only about 5 minutes. After his nap, he and Curt went out to do some "man things" (fill up our propane tank so we could grill some steaks for dinner) and then they went to the park. Curt said as they were leaving the park and walking back to his truck, Bodie turned around and waved and said bye-bye to the park. Then he must have decided he really didn't want to say bye, so he turned around and ran back to the playground. Curt said once he caught him Bodie showed he was really upset to leave. But when they got home Bodie got to play in the sandbox and run around the backyard so all wasn't lost. All that activity helped him work up a huge appetite. He wouldn't touch his steak, but he ate an entire baked potato, and some carrots. That was after a couple snacks while he was waiting for dinner. Also he slept fabulously Sunday night. We can't wait for the weather to be nice for good.

A few baby brags... Over the weekend Bodie started saying papapple (pineapple). He has a lot of new words, but this one has to be the cutest. He has also started taking an interest in watching "baball" (basketball) and tries to be Shaq by tipping over his hoop. We need to get some sand or water in the base so he can't bring it down anymore. Finally, last night Curt was wrestling around with our Beagle, Tahj, and ended up laying on his back sort of bear hugging Tahj on his chest. Bodie heard Tahj growling and thought it was the funniest thing. Then after Tahj was gone, Bodie laid himself on Curt's chest and started making growling sounds. It was pretty funny to watch.

All we need is just a little patience

If only I knew enough Guns N Roses songs to be able to title each of my posts after their lyrics....

Saturday was a pretty trying day for me. I really hate when I lose my patience with Bodie. I have to keep reminding myself that he's only 19 months old and I think I tend to expect more from him than he is capable of right now. Our day started off really nice. Curt hadn't slept well Friday night, so I got up with Bodie and we spent a lot of time snuggling on the couch, reading stories. He ate his breakfast great. Played by himself...just a nice day. After his nap my mom called and wanted to go shopping. I figured since it was such a nice day, I would bring Bodie along so he could get out and get some fresh air. First we went to Gordmans. The door we walked in didn't have any carts, but Bodie is good about walking with me and holding my hand, so I thought we'd be fine. And we were fine, until I was getting very hot and had to take my jacket off. When I let go of his hand he took off. Right as I was about to get him he nose dived to the floor. Thankfully there were empty carts around the store so I put him in one and he was fine again. I needed to find him a new pair of shoes because his current ones seemed to be getting a little snug. I finally found a pair in his size, took off his shoe and he freaked out. Real tears and everything. So, needless to say, we bought the new pair without even trying them on. I shouldn't really be surprised. Bodie has always been pretty attached to his shoes (that was his first word after Mama, Dada, Deuce and Tahj). The rest of our shopping trip was fine, though, after the shoe incident. At dinner I told Curt I really didn't have much patience that day, which you would think he would have been sympathetic of, but instead right after dinner he disappeared to the basement. I expected him to only be gone a few minutes (since he didn't tell me before what he was doing - trying to hook up the TV in our workout room). But after 20 or so minutes I figured out what he was doing and it just added to my frustrations of the day. So I decided to give Bodie his bath. Bodie kept splashing and splashing...I try not to be the no fun mom, but I hate leaving the bathroom just as wet as he is. Then I gave him his toothbrush (he gets to brush in the tub on bath nights) and he immediately put it in the water. So I had to try to grab it back to put toothpaste on it and he had the grip of death on that thing. I started to cry after I yanked it from his had. I just hate being so short with him. Curt resurfaced after bathtime was over and the rest of our evening was fine.

Then there was Sunday. A good, but odd day. Curt and I decided to run errands after Church, and we decided Bodie would have more fun playing with his grandparents than hanging out with us. We picked Bodie up at what usually would be the start of his nap time. We got home and gave him a little snack before we put him down. We put him in his crib at 1:30....After 40 minutes of listening to him talk and play music on his aquariam crib toy, I went to check to make sure he hadn't pooed. He was standing in his crib apparently not at all wanting to take his nap. I left him in there though, and had a lot of entertainment listening to him over the monitor. He talked about mama, dada, didi (diapers), made car sounds, kissed his stuffed animal, I can't remember what else but it was all pretty funny. When I heard him say didi, I had to wonder again if he'd pooed (he had a big toot when I put him down so I worried it was a possibility). Since he'd been in there for an hour and a half I decided to put away the laundry in the dryer and get him up. Of course, when I walked upstairs with the laundry I heard a different sound from his room - snoring!! I couldn't believe after almost 2 hours he was finally out. Of course by now it was 3:30 and if we let him sleep too long he wouldn't go to sleep that night. He woke up a little after 4 and was of course poopy. And fussy. We think he might be teething because he's been chewing on his fingers a lot lately. After some motrin he was a pretty happy kid again.

Today Bodie's daycare is closed for a teacher in service day, so he is at home hanging out with daddy, who has the day off for President's day. They are going to come and meet me for lunch though, hopefully with both of them in a good mood.

Reduced to Tears

Last night I was watching the Westminster Dog Show on USA when this commericial came on:

I was completely reduced to tears. It reminded me of when we went to the shelter to adopt our dog, Deuce. We walked into the room where all of the dogs were. All of the dogs were jumping on the kennels and barking trying to get our attention. All but one that is. Deuce crawled on his belly to the edge of his kennel and laid there quietly while we petted him. He was just the sweetest little dog we'd met. I know some people are hesitant to adopt from a shelter because "you just never know what you are going to get" but Deuce is a much better behaved dog than our other dog that we got from a breeder. Curt and I have agreed that with any future pets we get they will come from a shelter or rescue organization.

In other dog news, we were very excited that Uno, the 15-inch Beagle, won the dog show last night. Our other dog, Tahj, is also a 15-inch Beagle. He is a bit chunkier and less well behaved than Uno, but we love him nonetheless.

Baby updates

Since there aren't many other things to do at 4:30 in the morning when suffering from pregnancy induced insomnia, I thought I'd write a little update on the babies.

First, I had my 2nd OB visit this week. It was a little annoying because the doctor's office closed the day before my appointment due to bad weather so they were trying to fit in extra appointments that day, and I didn't see the doctor until an hour after my scheduled time. This must have made my pretty relaxed as my blood pressure was fairly low (90 something/58). Anyway, I was able to hear the heartbeat, although I didn't ask the doctor what it was. I knew if I knew the rate I would go back and compare to Bodie and try to guess if it must be a boy or a girl. We could also pick up the sounds of it moving around, which is amazing to me. To think this little baby that weighs only about an ounce can make such movements that can be heard is a little miracle. So far I have had 3 dreams that it is a boy and Curt has also had 1 dream that it is a boy (he also dreamed I was pregnant the month before I found out I was, so he has some abilities going on here). But I also dreamed my mom had a baby with a foot and hand growing out of its scalp, so my dreams are apparently not very accurate.

Bodie has been doing great. He started making his own 2 word sentences (before he'd say things like "all done" and "bye-bye Deuce" but those were things we'd say a lot so I didn't count them). He saw Curt's shoes laying on the floor, picked one up, and said "da da's shoes". Ahhh, my heart melted. He also started waving to me and saying "bye-bye Mama" as Curt carries him upstairs to bed. It is pretty cute. Overall, he's been just a happy kid lately, which makes life easier for all of us.
